Standard carpet width most manufacturers in the us make three carpet sizes for residential purposes.
The purpose of this setup is to define an area.
Unlike the width manufacturers can cut the length of the carpet to whatever you need.
The size of a roll of carpet varies according to its availability with the most common length being 12 feet.
But if you need it for commercial purposes you can probably special order 6 foot carpets.
Usually area rugs are available in the following standard sizes.
12 feet 13 feet and 6 inches and 15 feet.
Keep in mind that they may vary by several inches either bigger or smaller.
Other fixed widths include 13 feet 6 inches and 15 inches depending on the manufacturer.
On stairs i recommend a carpet pile height of 1 2 or less and a carpet padding thickness of 7 16 or less and a pile density rating of at least 8 pounds.
Standard lengths of carpet rolls also include 15 feet and 13 1 2 feet.
Remember these are standard setups.
It brings the surrounding furniture together in a cohesive design.
If you want your carpet to last longer i recommend a carpet pile height of less the 3 4.
